Mushroom Print

In recently moving to Nova Scotia, I was blown away by the colours, textures shapes and sizes of the fungi. They can be found seemingly year round with the mild weather. If you needed an excuse to go explore your provinces back yard, here it is.
Some of the beautiful mushrooms I've seen in beautiful Nova Scotia.

Fly Agaric:
Fun Fact: this is one of the most famous and illustrated mushrooms in the world.
Colour: red, orange or yellow.


Destroying Angel:
Colour: white.
Odor: sickly sweet
Deadly Poisonous.

Shellfish-scented Russula:
Description: convex with a broad depression in the center.
Fun Fact: named after its odor which is described as fish or shellfish.
Colour: red, purple, pink or brown.


Lobster Mushroom:
Fun Fact: this is actually a parasite engulfing a large brittlegills or milkcaps.
Description: The host/victim mushroom retains its general shape but is distorted by the parasite.
Colour: red/orange. Reddish orange pimples can be seen, these are the fruiting bodies of the parasite.
Parasite is edible, but the deformed parasite may be hard to identify. Host mushroom is potentially poisonous.

Golden Chanterelle:
Colour: vivid golden. There are many Chanterelle varieties, colours ranging from black to red.
Description: deeply depressed at the center, the margin of the mushroom cap is often wavy.
