Why you should include bachelor's buttons in your flowerbed

Gardening this year has been absolute magic. Bachelor's Buttons (cornflower) became favourite of mine. The bachelor's buttons were some of the first of my seeds to pop up in spring and has given a beautiful contrasting cool tones to my flowerbed.

Reasons you too should incorporate bachelors buttons to your flowerbed:

1. Edible. With a cucumber taste, bachelor buttons are a wonderful addition to summer salads, or avocado toast.

2. Pollinators. Bachelor Buttons attract bees, butterflies and birds! Bees and butterflies have been enjoying the long & fruitful blooms. Bachelor's buttons are a feast to finches.

3. Beautiful cut and dried flowers. Bachelor's buttons come in a variety of different colours, pink, yellow, blue and purple. The blue tones complement the bright yellows, oranges, reds, and whites. Cut flowers are a wonderful way to bring brightness to your home and encourage second blooms extending their blooming season. Dried flowers have been used for their vibrant colour in teas, bath bombs, and dried floral arrangements.

4. Bachelor's button is extremely hardy. It thrives in most gardens for a number of reasons, draught tolerant, deer, and insect resistant.

5. Self seed. Once you plant bachelor's buttons, it is hands off, they do all of the hard work for next years flowers through self seeding.

It is the perfect beginners plant to incorporate into a flowerbed, or herb garden. Cooled toned beauty that is edible, hardy, and a pollinators delight!
